Re: two more gentians

Gentiana flavida :

This native north American Gentian has creany-white flowers over semi-glossymedium to yellow-green leaves.  Plants bloom in late summer and the flowerslook very much like a bottle gentian.  This species is more upright growingthan G. andrewsii reaching a height of 2 feet. Nice plants for a moist prairieplanting or in a mixed boarder. If you also grow A. andrewsii allow themto cross pollinate and self sow-the offspring will produce some very attractiveplants with creamy-white flowers rimed in blue. Plants maintain an uprightform too.  Your seedlings will take two or three years to bloom. Surfacesow seeds and use F 50, bright light will speed up germination, which canbe spread out over a few months. Long lived species that grows into a goodsized clump with time. Zones 3-8.  Native from Central and north centralUSA.   Makes a nice dried flower too.

Gentiana purpurea :

Very much like a bottle gentian, except with purple-violet flowers and a more upright form. This species is native from South and Central Europe, were it is found growing in Alpine meadows.  Surface sow  seeds at 70ºF  for 3 weeks, move to the fridgerater for 6 weeks, afterwords  move to 55ºF for germination in 1-4 weeks, use bright light
