Re: tools

Thanks for the ideas everyone. I'll have to try the pruning saw on some
clumps. And maybe santa will bring a second digging fork for xmas. And I'll
have to try forking out part of a clump still in the ground (do that
regularly with the shovel when I can get through the roots). I scare my
husband when I use sharp tools in the garden... One year I was frantically
cutting back the tops of perennials that had started to look ratty (we were
selling our house and I was a bit rushed trying to get everything inside and
out to look as good as possible...). I had grabbed a handful of plant and
managed to cut the first joint of one of my fingers nearly down to the bone
with my new Felco pruners... Those babies were so sharp I hadn't even
realized I'd cut myself till I saw the blood dripping. (love those pruners).
I'm intrigued by the small electic chainsaw idea... hubby has one that he
hasn't used in years... And I guess I need to try to sharpen my gardening
knife (an old chef's knife) cause I struggle with cutting clumps apart with
it (can't do it while hubby is around - makes him too nervous).

every day... not a lot, just enough to freshen things up)
