Not Doug here, but
I write a monthly article on shade gardening for a local home and garden
magazine. It was a gardening magazine, but was purchased by another
individual who soon turned into "something more"... where it actually became
less.. but I will not get into that one. Anyway, one issue was missed at the
end of this year... November and December issues were combined. Now I
understand two may be combined again in early 2003. Lack of advertising. No
money is made through subscription.
Most regional and local nurseries had a very tough year this year and
are stuck with a lot of inventory that did not move due to the local
drought. From what I can tell, most small businesses are sitting tight,
holding their breath, cutting expenses. Advertising is usually the first to
get cut.
Should be a very interesting spring for everyone... nurseries and
gardeners alike
