RE: summer beauty

I think I already sent this when we were having the discussion about
"Endless Summer" hydrangea, but here is what I saved on the computer.
The website mentioned is still under construction, but has pictures.

"Enter Hydrangea macrophylla Endless Summer!
This new cultivar won't be generally available until the spring of 2004
but it will be worth waiting for if it's as good as it appears to be in
the current trials. (Though it's known in the trade as "Endless Summer"
this plant's real name is H. m. "Bailmer." )
Endless Summer was first discovered in 1983 by Vern Black, production
manager with Bailey Nurseries, Inc. of St. Paul Minn. It's a
mophead-type hydrangea, with clear pink blooms in soils with poor
aluminum uptake, typically alkaline soils, and blue flowers in acidic
soils with sufficient aluminum. Flower size ranges from four to six
inches across under garden conditions, and up to eight inches across in
containers. Foliage is medium-to-deep green with good substance, and is
mildew resistant. Mature plant size is three to five feet in width and
height.
If new emerging growth is cut back to half each early spring, the amount
of bloom is significantly increased. In addition, removal of spent
blooms results in repeat bloom from mid-spring until frost.
One additional point about these colored mop-head hydrangeas is their
ease of drying for interior decorations. I cut them at their peak of
blue (or pink) color and hang them upside down by their stems in a hot
attic or equivalent.
Bailey Nurseries are in the process of building a website on this new
plant. You'll be able to check it out soon at EndlessSummerBlooms.com."
