Another possibility that I don't remember seeing is Eranthus hyemalis, or
winter aconite. It has bright yellow, 1" wide flowers supported on a small
collar of green foliage, standing a total of 3 to 6" high. It looks
really nice, and blooms to zone 3.
Iris reticulata (netted iris) often blooms for me in the late winter
months as well.
Finally, my favorite is Hepatica acutiloba -- I'll post some pictures
of mine in bloom sometime soon. They range from white to pink and
will bloom for over a month regardless of snow and other adverse
weather.
