White Flower Farm offers a "plan" and plants for a perennial bed similar
to what you've described - daffodils in spring and daylilies in summer
to cover the dying daffodil foliage. I don't know about the rudbeckias,
but I don't see why they couldn't be added in. I planted the
daffodil/daylily mix this past fall so I can't say yet how it will come
out, but I'm very hopeful! In the White Flower catalogue, they show a
similar bed planted at the New York Botanical Garden (I think). I think
they recommend a 2:1 ratio of daffodils:daylilies.
