Acaena:
called "BIDI-bidi" "New zealand Burr"
Over one hundred species of mostly evergreen plants forming creeeping mats
with some subshrubs. Plants are mostly grown for there leaves.
The stems root were they come into contact of the ground.
Grow in medium fertile soils that are well drained and some what dry.
Powdery mildew and rust might effect plants
A. microphylla compact, creeping, more or less evergreen, pinnate bronze
leaves small.
bright red burrs after flowering in late summer. 2" to 5" tall and to 25
inches across zones ?6-8 or ?5-8.
Flower heads spiny with red bracts. full sun to light shade.
Plants from New Zealand in meadows along streams and in disturbed sights.
form 'Kupferteppich" is more atractive than the species with red-bronze
leaves.

A. buchanaii
A. caesiiglauca
A. magellanica
A. novae-zelandiae
