Thanks to all who responded to the cold frame question. The reference to
the pamphlet on Building and Using Cold Frames touched a memory and sure
enough I have not one, but two copies of this publication. I pulled it
out and read it and also checked gardening catalogs for the automatic
opener. The publication gave plans for a 3 x 6 foot box which I think I
could rapidly fill up, but it would be a start. Since I work during the
day I think the automatic opener would be essential. I also liked the
idea of the tempory cold frame made from straw. Since we have sheep
extra bales of hay are usually available in the spring. So that is a
possibility if all I need is to harden of the young plants rather than
actually extend the season. Of course that would leave me with manually
adjusting the window covering.
