Janice,
I try to buy seeds from Shepherd's Seeds. They're owned by White Flower
Farm. Their quality is excellent, but the seeds a little pricey.
Therefore, I only buy varieties from there that I can't find elsewhere.
For example, I always buy the Blue Point Zinnias. Yeah, you can buy
zinnias from anywhere, but you can't beat that selection for form, depth of
color, and uniformity. I've never grown zinnias of this caliber before.
For more common seeds, I like the prices from Pinetree Gardens. You can
buy packs of seeds from $.35 and up. The smaller packages are just what I
need for a yard my size. What am I going to do with 100 zinnia seeds?
Anyway, I noticed that no one has commented on your cosmos choice yet from
T&M. Cosmos are a snap to grow. I've always had a problem with them
getting too tall and flopping over. Since I grow them for cutting, I want
long stems, but I hate how sloppy they can get. And they reseed like the
dickens with the seedlings all being a magenta color. I've forgotten about
this until I saw your email. Check out Shepherd's Seeds for their
varieties. They are particularly fond of cosmos and offer a good selection
of unusual forms. They also offer a variety of sunflowers for cutting,
too.
Both companies always advertise in gardening mags in the early spring with
free catalogs. Don't pay for them unless you have to.
