Re: sedum autumn joy

It takes about two years to get really nice thick stands of Sedum 'Autumn Joy'
what you can do to speed it up for next year is--when the plants are about 2"
tall in the spring - Snap off completely the first set of stems at ground
level. The plants will thicken up by producing a lot of secondary shoots.
They will be shorter, but bushier.

Since we are the subject of sedum's. Has any one ever collect seeds off of
'autumn Joy' and raised any seedlings? I have had mine for 10 years and no
seeds. I think it must be a sterile hybrid.
This year I had a real nice planting of 50 Sedum 'Brilliant' really showy but
not as long blooming as 'Autumn Joy' I collected a lot of seeds from these
plants and hopefully in a year or two we will see what I get. "Brilliant'
needs a richer soil that is more moister retentive than 'Autumn Joy' does to
grow well for me. I can plant 'Autumn Joy' any were and it does well.
If you are looking for a nice upright Sedum I highly recommend 'Matrona' Nice
large thick leaves on plants that grow 24-28 "tall. Stems are thick and
reddish tinted with leaves a gray green with reddish veins. great shape. Was
very popular with my customers this year. a different look.
