Re: plant lust/then longest blooming/now: Night Rescues


Val, about this fall planting concept...

I have lived on the west coast of Canada for 14 years, and before that in
Ontario Canada where it is mighty chilly in the winters.  Since I've lived
in 'la-la' land here on the Pacific Ocean, I have had few good tales about
fall planting.  I have learned the expensive way that you really must get
your new perennials in by mid October - after that, not enough time to
establish before the winter rains and frosts.  But, no problem with
planting shrubs, fruit tress/bushes!  We put 14 hydrangea Nikko Blue in
last month, as part of our back yard 'fence', and they were very happy
before they dropped their leaves for the winter.
