Val, Blackberries are one of the wild weeds that come up everywhere here in
the northwest. If they were the type with big juicy fruit, like
marionberries, it wouldn't be so bad, but they are the himalayan type that
are hard and sour. However, they CAN be killed by applying a brush killer
in August when the plant is storing energy in its roots for the winter. The
brush killer is taken to the roots and kills the whole plant, roots and all.
Now that doesn't mean there won't be another along soon, because the birds
do a good job of spreading the seeds around! Wild blackberries, horsetail
rush, deadly nightshade and bindweed are the scourge of the gardening world.
