perennial water garden

Dear Friends,

Now that the fall garden clean up has been completed, many, many
divisions of our plants have been potted up, names have been applied to
wooden slats and mark the resting places of any plant which might be
destroyed by over exuberant March gardening (rather resembles a Barbie
and Ken cemetery) I can now ask a question I have been wanting to know.

How many of you have perennial water gardens? And what perennial plants
do you use to surrounding them? I started my little water garden about 8
years ago as a continuation of one of my beds, at the time, since I
wasn't sure how long I would want the small pool, I didn't want to invest
too much. I purchased a small rigid childs wading pool from a local
discount center and sank it into the ground as far as it would go (about
12-18 inches) I planted adjuga around the edges of the pool and in the
raised bed planted Hosta, Iris, Hardy Geranium, Candy Tuft,Euphorbia
(spurge) columbine, Coral Bell (heuchera) pink Coreopsiss, Stachys(lambs
ear) and a few more plus a few annuals and a few dwarf Dalha's Oh yes,
also a purple plum bush that I keep trimmed to resemble a small tree.
This small cheap pool lasted about 6 years and was replaced several years
ago with a larger black rigid pool designed specifically for water
gardens. I just love it. I keep common cheap goldfish in mine and altho
I have lost a few, and the two koi didn't last much more than a year on
the whole they survive with very little maintance for us. We feed them
daily until the temp reaches around 45 and then you no longer need to
feed often as they go into hibernation.
Please let us know your history, and perennial plantings surrounding your
water feature.
