Good thoughts Gene,

Some design is good but the landscaper makes a design, puts the compenents in
place and stands back to have look. Then he is finished. We are never
finished.

There are people who buy into this process but they are not gardeners.

At certain times in the process, I have a vision of how to tie it all
together and make an orderly design. Fortunately this does not happen too
often. This past summer I had some garden help. We made new edges and added
tons of rocks. We connected things. There was no plan. I may do some
organizing in another five years but for now I am finished. It was huge lot
of labor.

I have a friend who is successful with graph paper, she has a painterly
garden that is charming. I have never gotten any plan on paper nor have I
ever been able to keep a schedule. Does anyone with a love for horticulture
plan?

Christopher Lloyd, the writer, says in one of his books that the very best
time to do a garden chore is when you are in the mood, have the tool handy
and have the time.

You must come up to the Albany area, Gene, and do your programs. We have
several societies here and need some fresh ideas. There is a spring garden
day in early May. If you can abide an excusion into zone 4, we will invite
you.
