Terry,
I have daylilies from seed. Not that hard to grow. I chill them for several
weeks or plant them in the fall and allow nature to take its course.
Some bloom within 18 months. But the color range can be disappointing. I have
crossed some parents expecting colorful offspring, but the colors are often
'muddy or not very unique".
I grew the Black Eye Stella which was touted as a great new daylily but I
don't think it's much. Tried crossing it with Stella Doro but haven't gotten
anything unique.
I also found that tetraploidal daylily seed is more difficult and more
erratic to germinate. Maybe the seed is not as viable as the diploid
varieties.
