Ok. Where do i obtain the best hemerocallis seed? Are there any
tips you can give me re raising them from seed? Do I need the
patience of Job and the persistence of a computer whiz trying to
convince me that Y2K is a problem?

Hemerocallis seeds germinate generally rapidly and the seedling grow fast.
So they are not hard to grow from seed.

Were to get seed might be a diffrent story-how much seed do you need?
If you really are interested you might want to join one of the daylily
listservs.

There are two general trends at work in daylily hybridizing 1) Tetraploids
are taking over and the diploids are on the back shelf, so to speak.

2) A lot of work is being done with less than hardy stock, resulting in
really nice Daylilies but they do not grow well were it gets cold.

The seed wholesalers charge an arm and leg plus a tooth or two for seed,
examples:

100 seeds for $46.00 Diploids
and
100 seeds for $31.25 Tetraploids

125 seeds for $36.80 (In Euros)

If you cannot find a good source this winter, (it's winter here at least) I
have a couple hundred seeds from last fall. They are tetraploids and this
years crop comes from mostly reds and purples with a few pastels thrown in,
should be some nice lite ruffling on many of the plants and the flower size
should be 5-6 inches.

Here is what works for me on starting the seeds, I soak the seed in warm
water for a day or two then sow them in a bag with some moist seed medium and
place in the fridge for two weeks. I sow the seeds in a pot and cover with
clear plastic and germination starts in a three days and continues for a
number of weeks.

Seedlings are large and easy to handle, so remove them and plant out in a few
weeks, Give plenty of water and a regular fertilizer regime.
