My experiments with Coreopsis verticillata and C. rosea show that they
perform quite well in bog-like conditions as well as the well-drained soils
that are more often recommended. I can't speak to C. grandiflora and C.
lanceolata and their cultivars.
Just to add a bit to these contrary garden experiments :) my garden
experiments with *very* dry soils in shade with Tricyrtis have shown a
reduction in height but not flowering. (3years of data) Normal sandy soils
in part-shade with some irrigation have shown no difference in flower
production or height with the more heavily watered plants.
One of these years, I'm going to give plants what they want rather than
what I want to give them. It'll be ever so much nicer but so much more
boring.:-)
