Is there such a book?
The recent request about a particular book reminded me of a book (or
dozens of them) which I would like to find. If there is no such book, I
would write one, if I were a writer. The subject is one which any avid
(read obsessed) gardener would like: the history of particular plants,
from the viewpoint of people through the ages who have been besotted by
them. "Plants which were more than plants" or "Plants which symbolize
something greater" - that kind of thing. The first plants which spring
to mind, of course, are roses, lilies, peonies etc. "Plants which men
have worn into battle" could be another title.
Am I just getting cabin fever, waiting for spring? If anyone likes the
idea, be my guest and write it up. But I would love to know if there is
any such writing out there; I know I could find bits and pieces in many
books, if I wanted to do the research, but I would appreciate any easier
suggestions!
