I don't know about the rest of you, but nasturtiums in my part of the world
have a nasty way of attracting those tiny shiny black beetles that chew up
the foliage like mad. No matter where I put nasturtiums, it never fails
that I must end up pulling them out due to this tiny pest making them look
ratty. They won't go near anything else BUT the nasturtiums! I swear that
they must appear out of thin air. I'm not sure of the name of the beetles,
but they are about the size of a grain of rice, but are almost perfectly
round, hard shells, solid black and very shiny. They seem impervious to
insecticidal soaps and I hesitate to use anything harsher. Much easier to
just pull out the plant.
I love nasturtiums for the bold red and gold, the nice fragrance, and their
trailing habits, but I can't make them last past mid-summer.
