My bog garden is simply a butyl liner-lined depression next to my lily
pond. The liner is only about 8 inches down and is not perforated. It
collects any overflow from my pond, but in dry weather, I usually need to
suppliment the water.
I see no reason why your plan wouldn't work just as well. Good luck, as
there are lots of neat things that you can grow - be sure to try Ironweed
(Vernonia sp). I've tried marsh marigold (Caltha palustris) but so far,
results are less tha spectacular.
