Hi Sheila,
I grow both Actinidia kolomitka and A. arguta here in Milwaukee (Zone 5)
and they are perfectly hardy. It has taken several years, but my plants
are now blooming size. The one thing what you must watch is that since you
must have both male and female plants (only the male of A. kolomitka
exhibits the multicolored leaf, BTW), some of the different species of
Actinidia bloom at different times, so for best results, be sure you have a
male and female of the same species or at least a species with which it
known to be compatable.
About the variety called "winter...", perhaps you might be referring to A.
kolomitka, which is often referred to as 'Arctic Beauty' ?
