Hey all of you who live in an area where there is a Costco store --
I visited Costco yesterday and they have packaged bulbs and perennials for
extremely good prices. A bag of 100 babiana bulbs was about $6 as were a
bag of 70 gladiolus bulbs, a box of two hellebores (bareroot) and a box of
four coreopsis "moonbeam" bare root. There were also dahlias and canna for
about the same price. The bulbs and plants appeared to be of good quality.
I was especially taken by a bag of mixed gladioulus, half of which were
burgundy and the other half chartreuse!
There was also a two volume set of books -- The Random House Book of Indoor
and Greenhouse Plants by PHillips and Rix. Each volume was $6.39 and
though it is titled indoor and greenhouse plants, all the plants I saw are
ones that we grow outside (where would you grow pittosporum or liquidamber
in a greenhouse?). Terrific photos of several thousand plants growing
outside (not photos of them in the greenhouse), pretty good descriptions of
plants, their origins, and their needs.
