    In addition to Chris's suggestions and Marge Talt's recommended site
reference, you may want to check with your local CoOperative Extension Office.
They have a publication on the subject of walnut toxicity toward other plants.
When all is said and done, it will end up being a process of experimentation.
    Take a look on my web site at photos of my garden in the virtual garden
section. You will see a walnut tree right in the center of my garden next to the
board bridge near the cave and rock ledge. There is a climbing hydrangea going up
the trunk of the walnut. I have orchids growing at the base among the roots. Other
wildflowers and non-native are all around.
    Personally, I would be more concerned with root competition than the toxicity.
