And a masterful job too, Terry. And thankyou, as this particular problem
has plagued
me for years. Finally, I have an .....NO!... ...I have THE answer.

You did, however, neglect one aspect of the whole heretofore unresolved
quandry. I am
not surprised at this most convenient, and dare I say, deliberate oversight
on your part as
scholars of all disciplines have been avoiding it for years.
You neglected to mention exactly how it came to be that when asked why he
was trying
to establish trade links with the east , Polo choralled (an appropriate
combo of corraled + choral)
his men together and sang three verses of "It's a Sino the Times". (Anyone
else remember Pet Clark?)

Why did you avoid an attempt (and opportunity) at answering this historical
conundrum?

Oh, how I long for the time when true Renaissance wits (I do not use this
denomination in its
sensus vulgaris{I trust you understand}), enflamed with that veritable and
burning thirst for
knowledge - burst forth from the thousand year socio-religio-herewego
bondage of the Dark
Ages, stepping into the reclaimed light of true scholarship...You know, like
the times when all the
convicts sailed into Australia.

Neil.......now, thanks to yesterday's storm, under 5 feet of the white
stuff.

(Apologies to the listowner, but I do feel that such an important issue had
to be addressed-
to the benefit of all, I'm sure.)
