Donna, I've had lilies in pots for years. They do great! Just make sure
the pot is big & deep enough, at least 12 inches - I use 16 inch pots,
15 inches deep, for 3 bulbs. Be sure not to overwater. I don't store
them in winter, just plant them in the ground in the Fall. But storing
them might work where soil is wet in winter. They must not freeze.
Putting a few aluminum cans at the bottom of the pot before adding
potting soil will save on the amount of soil and improve drainage.
I add a variety of annuals or tender plants around the edges
of the pots (or even perennials, like coreopsis 'Moonbeam').
Great accents for the garden and you can place the pots near a
seat and inhale the fragrance - yum. I've heard you can also dig
lilies from the garden and put them in pots for the season, digging
when they're up a couple of inches. Have never tried this but I may
this year since I have some clumps that need dividing.
