Quick question for anyone:
My large allium are peeking out already. These are not 'Globemaster', but
are very similar (I forgot the exact name) in height and form. I love them
dearly as they look great with my roses.
When is it OK to divide these? I've noticed that my clumps have multiplied
(7 - 9 shoots per clump) and just remembering how large the foliage is on
these I know that they would need to be divided soon for best flowering.
Would it be OK to do now while they are showing less than 1" or should I
wait until they are dormant? The problem with dormancy is that it would be
nearing the height of summer. I don't know if that necessarily is a factor
since they will be sleeping, but I don't want to lose these huge purple
balls.
By they way, I still have my cool arrangement thanks to a suggestion posted
last year on this list! I spray painted the blooms when they dried out and
the resulting arrangement is in my foyer at home. Everyone wants to know
where to get the dried flowers in the shades I have (white, black, and
forest green to match the flooring and wall paper). This was a great idea,
very retro looking -- so thanks!
