I am in Zone 8 and not only have I had petunias to over winter this year I
have tiny plants that have germinated all over the place. I suggest before
you go out and rid your garden of the weeds...........that you check those
weeds to make sure they are not tiny little plants of flowers that have
reseeded.
I seed annuals and perennials directly into my garden and the past 2 years
have had very little luck with germination. Walking through the garden last
week I saw very little there except weeds.........I purchased the roundup to
take a quick spray through this week and low and behold the beds are full of
tiny plants everywhere. I recognized some and others I do not so I kept my
spraying to a minimum. This is very early for these plants to be showing
themselves. I am looking forward to a Full Garden this year!!
