I hope you are not in a wash area similar to those in Arizona. When I was a kid, I saw
this wall of water that took out everything in it's path. Yeah, I was a child at the
time and it made a big impression on me, but had not thought about it in years till I
read your message. I also remember going back to the 50-75 ft area a few weeks later.
They had bulldozed it and had a for sale sign. Some unknowing person would buy this,
build a house and a year later, the same thing happens, taking their new home with it.
(My family was house hunting at the time)
If this took out 50 ft trees and everything else, I rather doubt anything you plant
will withstand the flood. I would not spend a lot of money on plants till you are sure
that this is not a reoccurring flood plain. I would have to agree that native plants
and grasses with good root structures are the thing to plant for now. If nothing else,
you would be helping the eco-system in your area.
