I thought I would not say anything on this thread but need to ask here if
your remedy lasting a winter, does not disfigure the laurels, rhodies, etc.
Any of the long lasting products that I used in the past remained on the
leaves and branch tips in a waxy grey residue. I would also agree with Marge
Talt's remarks. Deer that are hungry will eat the repellent covered shrubs
as well as those free of repellent. If you have been free of damage, count
your blessings. If the garden is any bit more than a small yard the work
involved here (spraying) is immense.
At this time, with a new 12 inch snowfall we have been watching deer, outside
the fence, pawing the snow to find apples under an old tree. They are also
eating the newest, and fruit bearing, shoots from the tree.
The only guilt free, cheap, work free and effective method to keep deer away
is a fence and if a large property, an electric fence. Where you have a
small area to fence an ordinary 4/5 foot fence will do putting up two sets of
fencing about four feet apart.
