Thanks Marge. The V. v. 'Purpurea' is one I was looking at too. It is sounding more glum by the moment, though, for feasibility.

Well, this isn't what you want, but there are two grapevines I have
lusted for lo' these many years...neither makes really edible grapes;
it's the foliage I want.
Vitis coignetiae, Crimson glory vine. I know would get too big as it
goes to 50', but the foliage turns the most incredible colors in
autumn....huge leaves. Unfortunately, I have no place for it at this
point..it wants a *lot* of space.

Vitis vinifera 'Purpurea', an ornamental form of the wine grape, is
better for smaller places and one of these days, I mean to get one.
