Karen,
Thank for the ABE mention. That is a good place to look first.
Take care that you ask the seller for the size of the book and the number of
pages. Random House, the publisher, is also selling the Rix/Phillips books
in a small abbreviated form using the the same title and format. It may not
be the large complete book you are seeking. The smaller edition looks like a
shrunken larger edition. I think this is a bit sneaky and you should be told
if that is what is offered.
I think I will wait for the paperback. It is a large book and leaves a dent
on your knees reading it in the hardcover form. As Graham Rice mentioned, I
have also just become aware of the Allen Armitage "Annuals, Biennial and
Hal-hardy Perennials". This one is over 600 pages. It is a feast or a famine.
Since every other Rix/Phillips book has been marketed thoroughly in this
country, I cannot understand why Annuals has been withheld. For those who
are not familiar with this series, these books carry a photograph for every
plant listed and generally try to show the plant in it's native location
giving you some help on finding the right location in your own garden. There
is usually not much cultural information but the number of plants described
makes them valuable references for any gardener.
