Speaking of seed germination, I have some of the common form of California poppies, and I'm not sure I even planted them, but they reseed well.  I have tried some of the newer varieties of white, pinks, etc., and can never get them to germinate.  Any suggestions?
I don't know about these newer ones, but I let some self-sow and others I save and sprinkle around in the fall. The original plants arose from seeds I sprinkled over a light snow cover in January one year.
