RE: zone ratings


I will leave the real answer to your question with the experts on this
list..

But, living here in IL, zone5, I don't get the extreme heat, so I base
my perennial plants on the old hardiness zones. I would think the newer
heat index is for those in the extreme north and south. Some plants can
not take the heat and others need so many days in the heat to bloom.

The only exception for me is some water plants. Some of them need so
many days in the +90 which some years happens here, but some not.

I have not seem many (if any) that are labeled for the heat zone around
here anyways.
