===>Exactly right, Claire. There are a few fall-blooming types that may
require summer moisture, but I don't think they'll live in your climate or
mine. Daffodils are dormant in the summer and have no way to use moisture
that I know of. Too much moisture can cause them to rot. I remember the story
a big New Zealand hybridizer told on himself once--he planted some of his
best daffodils on the edges of his rose bed. Of course he watered the roses
frequently, which did in the daffodils.
If they truly want to be very dry in the summer, those of us that had the
severe summer drought last year should have great daffodils this spring.
