From a writer in El Paso, Texas and from another list: 5. The Water Board will pay up to $100.00 for each old commode which is replaced with the new 2.3 gallon flush.
Well, that's certainly better than the 1.6 gal/flush that is the standard low flush model that's currently available. I'm all for conserving water, but the low volume sometimes creates, um... problems (meaning, keep a plunger handy at all times). I'm thinking of getting one of the power assisted models like the kind used in most Las Vegas hotels.
It's easy to be smug, particularly when one lives next to one of the largest fresh bodies of water (Lake Michigan), but something tells me that a serious water crisis in the southwest is not a matter of if, but of when. Even with conservation, there's no way the population growth rates out there can be sustained indefinitely.
