I had one of these in a big glass bowl on the kitchen counter when I was in
grade school. I was allowed to keep and observe all kinds of creatures
providing they were released undamaged.
The salamander disappeared one day and was not found in a whole house search.
My mother was not happy about this. Many years later moving carpets in the
LR, a small perfectly preserved skeleton was found under a carpet. It still
disturbs me to think about what I did to that little animal.
We lived, in the summer, near fresh water streams. It occurs to me that
slugs are not seeing enough toads in suburban locations as they require fresh
water to breed. Maybe translocating toads is not a bad idea. There is also
a woodland frog. This frog is a slug predator. We have many woodland frogs.
I have not see either supplied for gardens but it might work if shady cools
spots were available for them. They are harmless to plants.
