Re: slugs

This discussion has brought back a wonderful (ok maybe weird is a better word) memory of my gardening Grandmother. She hated slugs. In the flower garden, in the vegetable garden, on the path, under pots, where ever they resided, she found them. When I was younger, my job was to help pick the slugs and feed them to the chickens or turkeys. When I was in my late teens, she came to stay with my sister while my parents lived overseas. Despite her years and failing health, she still gardened and still fought the slug wars. But with no chickens to feed the slugs to, she found a new disposal method. Every morning and evening, she'd pick slugs in to a coffee can and when done, add some charcoal lighter fluid and and set it down on the drive way. She would toss in a lit match and smile.

Me, I serve them beer.
