# 1 I save all the coffee grounds, and we're coffee drinkers. Folks I know,
who will remain nameless go to Starbucks and restaurants and collect the
coffee grounds. Dry them out a bit; spread them on a newspaper in sun and
they dry rather quickly. Then spread a thin layer around the base of the
vulnerable plant(s), maybe an inch wide or so and VOILA! No more slugs.
Guaranteed! Except, I have no experience with these banana guys.
# 2 I keep three spray bottles( Windex type ) at three different areas of the
garden. You could use one or twenty, whatever suits your fancy. The
critical part is what's in the bottle. 1 part ammonia and 4/5 parts water.
When one sees a slug, get the spray bottle, shake gently, aim , hit the slug
and VOILA it's a writhing , shrinking goner. For some gardeners this brings
great pleasure. I might also mention since the ammonia is a form of
fertilizer, it does not harm the plants if a spritz gets on your favorite.
A combo of the two has worked extrememly well here in my zone 6b garden in
eastern Pa. Questions and comments invited. Tomorrow, the excellent method
to rid the other thugs; the Voles.
