Should work a treat.  My entire old raised bed veggie garden is now a
holding area for perennials and shrubs...got too shady for veggies
and the deer were eating everything.

Your full sun perennials may get a bit leggier than they would in
full sun, but they will be happy about the soil since it's probably
pretty good from growing veggies.
