Last weekend we hit 67°F and all week in the 60s but today the high is 32°. I checked the 2-week forecast and the highs range from 37 to 58° which isn’t bad at all for this time of year here in zone 5b. I’m hoping for it to just continue for a while like that w highs in the 40s, then 50s for a spring during which I can get some work done. Here we have a tendency to be cold, wet, overcast, dreary in the spring and when we finally get a chance to get out and work in the yard it suddenly jumps to 80°. It’s a bear when you have to work for a living and can’t take advantage of good days when we have them. Believe me, I took full advantage of last weekend! Still not done yet. Today plants were wilting in heat. Daffodils were lasting a long time with cool night and cool days but 75 plus is hot. Spring Beauties, bloodroot, and the best daffodils I have ever seen. Large blooms, smooth surface, substance...beautiful. Now the cold will come back but I will enjoy the best hellebores and daffodils I ever remember seeing. Here the air traffic are on strike on the 23rd of Christmas. People will worry about getting home or on booked holidays getting away. Rotters!!!
Merry Christmas and a very happy new gardening year to everyone! Kate
