Mark,
The aconite you asked about was Eranthis hyemalis, winter aconite. It has
been in bloom for about 3-4 weeks here in my Pennsylvania garden. Will
continue blooming for a long time since it reseeds and the plants are all at
different stages. Send me your address and I'll send you some seed.
As far as the gaura goes. They like great drainage. Lost a number last
year, but this year, after amending the soil with some gravel and sharp
sand, they are doing great. They are showing basal growth as we speak. The
crambe breaks dormancy quite late, so have patience. They take about 3
years to put on a marvelous show--you'll be glad you were patient. Give it
plenty of room however.
