In Kentucky the police will fine you, too, if you remove plants from the
wild. My story:
The family was going to have a big to-do for my niece who was going away to
college. It was going to be a backyard party in the fall and I wanted
fresh flowers for all of the tables. Well, near where I work, there was
masses of wild asters growing along an entrance ramp to the expressway.
Very pretty. I decided to cut some of those asters for my tables;
unfortunately, I picked the wrong time. It was getting dark and I had just
about finished cutting what I wanted when the cops pulled up behind me with
the lights flashing. When I explained what I was doing (holding the
evidence in hand, mind you) he flashed a light on the asters and then on my
face ... no doubt to see if I was sober (it was dark and here I am on an
entrance ramp to the highway with clippers). Trying not to laugh, he told
me that I couldn't pick the wildflowers, but since I had already been
through so much trouble, he'd let me take what I had. Shaking his head he
went back to his car, but not before he outright laughed aloud before
closing the door.
Be careful how you get your flowers, folks!
