Re: Vines

Hello donna,
I am not there to see the exact circumstances, so just some thoughts. My
house is surrounded by trees, in fact, too many of them for good air
circulation. I made a point of limbing up all of them to about 12 to 15
feet from the ground over a period of 3 years. That allows grass to grow
better and gets me light and air around the house while still protecting me
from the heat of the day.
Some of the Clematis alpina will take some shade and still perform. There
are also some species Clematis that are normally found in woodland edges.
Japanese Climbing Hydrangea is another good bet. slow grower, but good
display when mature. How about a trip to the library and looking into a
wildflower guide for your State on vines and woodies? You will find an
abundance of selections there to choose from and they have the additional
advantage of being acclimated to your area already.
