I have seen young willows used to make towers, trellises & arches for vines to
climb on. When green, they are supple enough to bend, yet strong enough to
bear weight. They can be held together with nails, wire & sticks for cross
pieces. Smaller willows can be woven in & out for more strength, support &
general aesthetic value. You can get as elaborate as you want. I've seen
them sold on Garden Tours, etc. -- not cheap.
