snowdrops

Lisa asked about my snowdrops--under a large ash tree in a shade
bed, I've got about a hundred of the galanthus nivalis. Under a maple in
with a lot of ferns and rhododendrons, there's one big plant of the double
snowdrops.
As for the eranthis (winter aconite), they bloom at the same time as
the snowdrops (hopefully in a few weeks!). I don't have nearly as many of
those even those the same amount were planted; what I've read is that they
aren't really bulbs but roots and are often shipped too dry and so don't
make it. I have seen a few places in town where there are large old drifts
that have self-sown.
