RE: hellebores and spring


Dear Concerned,
	Here in zone 8 Hellebores are evergreen.  I just cut last years leaves away
from the emerging stems and  flower buds yesterday.  The leaves persist
through winter, but look tattery by this time of year.  My white H. niger is
beginning to open its pristine white flowers.  I counted 100+ flowers in the
clump last winter, but it is an old (20 + yrs) clump.  I wouldn't give up,
they may come up yet.
