Filipendula, Queen of the Prairie <<<----pink
Filipendula rubra 'Venusta Magnifica'
An exceptional group of plants that deserves more attention. Each variety
has highly distinctive ornamental foliage and flowers. The flowers all
resemble astilbe, but are more irregular, and less formal. Even the flower
buds are beautiful. The species we offer seem to
be quite carefree, but they do require a moist, well drained soil. At least
two varieties prefer shade, but most like sun.
Note the dramatic size differences. This is a cultivar of a native prairie
species. Massive, fingered leaves emerge mahogany and turn green. The
plentiful flower heads are larger than a man's fist. This commanding plant
can attract ones attention from a good distance away.
Spreads freely. Always popular. Minimum pot size 3.5".
