Leslie,
Where you live will make a difference when you plant them. My ground seldom
freezes.
Dig the area well and incorporate lots of compost; sweat peas are heavy
feeders.
Dig a trench about 2" deep and plant the sweat peas, covering them with only
1" of soil. As they put on growth, you can fill in the trench with soil.
