New Zealand Flax

I saw a TV program last week that discussed the wonderful architectural form
provided by New Zealand flax, but they indicated that it was hardy in zonex
9 and 10, so I sort of wrote it off.
I'm snowed in today (our first measurable snowfall in 3 years turned into
about a foot of snow) and used to opporunity to pore over some of the
catalogs that have been stacking up. And, lo and behold, Wayside Gardens
has Phormium cookianum 'Flaming' in the spring catalog. It is listed as
zones 7-10. Anyone know anything about the hardiness of this plant? It's
pretty pricey ($34 for a 1 gal pot) so I don't want to waste my money if
it's out of the question!
Thanks for any input you can offer!
