Both, Paul. I have read a lot on 'how to grow' and have grown
culinary rhubarb for years, but not had fantastic luck with the one
small plant of R. palmatum I managed to get a few years ago - got it
from PNW source so it had a long trip east for starters, nor the
seedlings I've germinated...so am trying to learn more from other
gardener's actual experience.
I like LARGE plants, too:-) I fell in love with this at Beth
Chatto's stand at Chelsea 15 years ago and have wanted one of my very
own ever since.
Thanks for the good info....seems to me, from what I've read, that it
ought to do well where you are. Rhubarbs in general like cool
weather and cold winters. That nifty rhubarb page pointed out that
they need temps below 40F to initiate growth!
Is the R. p. 'Bowles' form supposed to be especially red? Sounds
very intriguing!
